Energy and Carbon Footprint Reduction Project
As part of its Energy and Carbon Footprint Reduction Project, Wesco Gas and Welding Supply replaced all of the metal halide light bulbs in building service areas with LED light bulbs. The replacement has resulted in a 40% decrease in kilowatt usage per month. In addition to reduced costs for lighting, the switch has led to savings in cooling the facility, as LED lights are much cooler than metal halide. The cumulative savings in energy consumption exceeded expectations, with an estimated annual reduction of $8,755 for electricity bills. Wesco also anticipates a significant additional cost savings from less frequent and less expensive bulb replacement of the LED’s as compared to metal halide bulbs.
“We are always looking for ways to improve efficiencies,” said Brad Johnson, assistant service manager at Wesco. “If everyone does a little bit to help the environment the overall footprint will be huge.”
