has partnered with Alabama Power to transition its sucralose plant in McIntosh, Alabama, to renewable energy. This agreement aims to meet the company’s goal of sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Alabama Power will supply Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) sourced from wind farms in Kansas and Oklahoma, which will help reduce the plant’s Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions to zero.
Sucralose plant manager George Parten emphasized the importance of this partnership in reducing the carbon footprint of their operations. This initiative will increase Tate & Lyle’s global renewable electricity use to over 30% and decrease the carbon footprint of its sucralose ingredient by more than 20%.
CEO Nick Hampton highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ambitious sustainability targets, which are aligned with a 1.5°C climate trajectory. This agreement is part of a broader sustainability program that focuses on reducing energy consumption and supporting sustainable agriculture.
