Smash My Trash – PEP Sustainable Small Business Champion Award
Smash My Trash has been recognized with the Sustainable Small Business Champion Award from Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP). This is a new award to honor small businesses with core operations centered on sustainability. These member companies demonstrate innovation and measurable impact by helping their customers reduce energy and water consumption, minimize carbon emissions and waste, or achieve other key sustainability metrics.
Smash My Trash is a small but mighty company that is transforming the waste hauling industry and protecting the environment at the same time. By compacting trash in dumpsters onsite, the company reduces the number of hauls required, saving money for clients while cutting emissions. Traditional waste hauling often transports partially empty dumpsters, resulting in unnecessary trips, higher costs, and increased emissions.
The Environmental and Economic Impact
Since starting operations in Mobile, Smash My Trash has completed over 20,000 smashes, eliminating more than 10,000 hauls. In 2024 alone, the company prevented 3,439 hauls, saving an estimated 614,516 pounds of CO₂—equivalent to removing 171 homes from energy use for a year.
Serving nearly 200 local companies, including PEP members BASF, Trane, and others, Smash My Trash has demonstrated that sustainability can align with business efficiency and cost savings.
Conclusion
This award highlights how small businesses can make measurable contributions to environmental stewardship, proving that innovative operations and community impact go hand in hand. Smash My Trash continues to set a standard for sustainable waste management while helping clients save money and protecting the planet.
