Removing Blight Through a Public-Private Partnership

PEP extends special recognition to the City of Prichard for his leadership on this project.

In a public-private partnership, EcoSouth Services worked with the City of Prichard to address a problem with dilapidated structures contributing to blight and poor living conditions throughout the city’s urban neighborhoods. Initially offering to remove 4-5 structures, EcoSouth’s donation of time and equipment ultimately resulted in abatement of 53 structures and 12 lots adjacent to condemned property.

EcoSouth employees came together, giving up time on their weekends to serve the community.

Jeff Claunch, CEO of EcoSouth Services, says good citizenship is part of their corporate culture. “When we see a need in the community, we do our best to fill it.”

The City of City of Prichard saved more than $150,000 while restoring a sense of safety and community pride back into its neighborhoods.

“We received very positive feedback from the neighbors,” said Claunch. The project “reinforced a sense of pride in their own homes.
